Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident in San Antonio

A woman was killed in a pedestrian hit-and-run accident in San Antonio Sunday morning on U.S. 90, police said.

The woman was identified at 28-year-old Priscilla Martinez, who was walking near the exit ramp at Cupples Road, officials reported.

Police are still searching for the vehicle involved in the San Antonio hit-and-run accident.

Those involved in hit-and-run accidents are sometimes charged with failing to render aid. In some cases, victims may have survived such an accident, if someone called authorities and emergency crews or offered help for injuries sustained.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 15-19 percent of pedestrian accidents are hit-and-runs.

Inattention, the influence of drugs or alcohol, fatigue and distractions are all just some of the reasons motorists hit pedestrians. But no matter what the reason for a pedestrian accident, motorists responsible and involved are required to stop, call for help and wait for authorities.
